To tell you the truth, I was never a fan of West Coast. However that perspective has change in 2017 when I visited Palm Springs and Joshua Tree for work. I remember driving 8 cities in 2 weeks in California, I fairly enjoyed each city, but driving through the dessert where there is nothing but hundreds of white humongous windmills was a culture shock to me. The view was simply stunning. This year, I was happy to come back to Joshua Tree with this cute couple for their special day. Here are pictures from their wedding shoot.
One of the things I love about my job is that I get to see and meet all kinds of people. Well, I was especially excited to meet and work with this man, Michael Bloomberg. Not only he is one of the richest man in US, he was once a mayor of beloved NYC when I lived there. Just like I hoped, he was a real man... Humble yet kind. I spent all day with him and his team and they really reminded me how New Yorkers are. One and Only..... NYC, I love you.
As I love Fashion, meeting designers always excites me. Photographing them is even more exciting. Here is a photo from our photo shoot with Guillame Henry of Nina Ricci.
I am extremely honoured that I am named as one of the ambassador for Cadillac's new model XT5 and Power Women Project. The car will be released in Oct 2017 in Japan. Below is an interview piece from the project.
Being back in Japan after 16 years of Eastern living, I simply forgot how AMAZING Japanese hospitality is, which we call OMOTENASHI. I had an opportunity to work at one of the prestigious onsen ryokan, Gorakadan, and reminded me of this omotenashi culture this country offers. From the arrival to the departure, they treat you like a king. The beautiful part is that you don't feel like they are doing it because it's their job. Yes, it is their job to take care of you while staying at those Japanese style hotels, but you get the sense of kindness and warm hospitality without trying. When I left the hotel, 3 of them helped putting me into a taxi. They told me good bye and bowed until they could not see the car anymore. I almost cried. Not because I was sad, but because of this beautiful culture.
Today is about celebrating friendship. and a beautiful ad? If you are still not familiar with this stunning model, I would like to introduce you to my dear friend, Roberto Sipos. I'm obsessed with this new ad Roberto did for Perry Ellis. Not only because friend is on it but the creative concept behind is amazing. So simple yet ON POINT. My recent favorite industry magazine, The Impression magazine features about the campaign. If you work in the industry, it is a good read.
Photographing babies are so fun. They are so unexpectable. I mean... how funny is his pose here. Love it!
A tall man walks into the store. He is just wearing a casual jeans and nice simple dress shirts. He is probably in late 40s or early in the 50s. Handsome? yes I think you could say he is handsome but I did not think of him twice. He must shop there often. He talks to the owner and he puts on a very simple navy jacket. well, I thought it was simple jacket and it is but wow he turned into a movie star in a sec. It is magic. One of finest men's suits from Italy is found across from Barneys New York called de Corato. Their suits are truly luxury and they personalize them for you. I had an opportunity to photograph their SS15 collection that is out now in the store. Check them out....
Thank you everyone who came to support last night! so blessed!

For many New Yorkers, World Trade Center holds special place in one's heart and reminds all of us the tragic event. It is hard to believe how much time has passed and now we have this impressive 100+ floor building called Freedom Tower. Last year, Conde Nast Publishing Company has moved to the building. The person I visited told me "Shoko, this place has great energy. I am very happy to be working here." Her words made my visit.
What is it about beauty in sadness?
Just like I like a lot of sad songs... I find darkness powerful and beautiful.
Because of the moment like this, I LOVE photography. It is simply one of the most beautiful rainbow experience I ever had. Power and Beauty of Nature is something you can never underestimate. #CloudIridenscence
I call this my greedy shot. I was having a cocktail with this magnificent view from Wythe Hotel and I wanted everything in one frame. The city view, the sunset, the blue sky, the hotel, and the bar I am in.... I stepped outside and looking into the the hotel bar, There.... everything I wanted to capture. Sometimes what you are looking for is just the other side of the glass. :-)
Living in NYC for 10 years, I realized I have never been really inside of Public Library on 42nd street. I know...what a shame. Anyway, I had an amazing tour of the gorgeous library in the lovely Thursday morning.

Happy New Year Everyone!
